PRESS RELEASE

4 August 2006
Thieves take the fern out of schools new garden

Two valuable 10ft tree ferns that formed part of a Show garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park that is being replanted in a Middlewich school were stolen last night. The ferns were central to the design of Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s silver medal winning Naturally Victorian garden, now being rebuilt at the school after a local pupil won a competition run by the Trust.

The large ferns were taken from the Cledford Junior School at some point on Thursday evening. Sue Tatman, Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s gardening officer, comments, “I’m absolutely appalled that someone would steal these ferns from children. Not only have the Trust worked hard to rebuild this garden at the school at their own cost, but the school children were all looking forward to having these wonderful ferns in their garden.”

If you have any information on the Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s stolen ferns please contact Cheshire Wildlife Trust on 01270 618180 or your local police.
