PRESS RELEASE

17 August 2006
Silver-winning Show garden rebuilt at Middlewich School

Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s silver-winning garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park is set for a new life in the grounds of Cledford Junior School, Middlewich. The Naturally Victorian garden pays homage to Victorian naturalists, showcasing innovative and imaginative ways to promote wildlife in gardens.

The school won the garden after pupil Holly Carter entered a competition run by the Trust and Barclays Bank, to draw the Victorian bank manager who may have owned the garden. Holly’s winning design appeared on the front of the Trust’s Show leaflet, whilst she also won a trip to the Show for her classmates.

The head teacher of Cledford Junior School, comments, “We are delighted to have won the garden and I’m sure it will be a huge hit with the children and make returning to school after the summer break a little easier! Our thanks must also go to Holly for her wonderful entry which made all this possible.”

Sue Tatman, Cheshire Wildlife Trust gardening officer, comments, “The rebuild of the garden at the school has gone fantastically well and I’m sure that the children are going to really enjoy spending time in it. The garden has lots of interesting features like the hornbeam hedge so hopefully this will help to engage the pupils in conservation and wildlife issues.”
