Danes Moss Nature Reserve Restoration Project
Danes Moss Nature reserve has recently been the recipient of a successful bid for money to secure adjacent land under CWT ownership.
The Trust wished to acquire the land (3.3 hectares) and restore it to dwarf shrub heath (as directed by Natural England). The current habitat type is pine plantation. The plantation will be clear felled and the arisings removed off site. A new boardwalk (suitable for disabled access) will then be developed around the woodland fringe. New interpretation boards will be installed and educational leaflets produced. Further birch and rhododendron removal on the current reserve is also planned.
The money for this exciting project has been raised from a number of sources. Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (Wren); Natural England's Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund; Macclesfield Borough Council, the Alan Evans Memorial Trust and Broadstock Office Furniture Ltd. The latter is a company based in Macclesfield w ith more than twenty five years of experience in Interior Office Space Planning across the UK. Broadstock have decided to make CWT their charity of the year. Their contribution is not only in the form of cash as match funding for the grants but in volunteer labour. Members of staff from Broadstock will be offered volunteering opportunities on the site carrying out such tasks as clearing Rhododendron and clearing branch wood from the area that has been felled of lodge pole pine.
